Ellie follows in the family footsteps

Ellie is our Management Trainee and the fourth generation of the Baker family to work in the flat roofing industry, continuing a legacy that began nearly a century ago.

Ellie’s great-grandfather, Albert Baker, started his roofing career in the 1930s as a slate roofer. In the 1960s, Ellie’s grandfather, John Baker, joined Albert in the trade before they both moved into the then-new flat roofing industry. John later went on to establish his own specialist flat roofing company, Monoroof, which was soon joined by Ellie’s father, Marcus Baker.

Ellie has been part of Monoroof since her teenage years, supporting John with a wide range of essential tasks including stock control, vehicle management, clearing the stores, and preparing hand-drawn graphs for the monthly management reports. Ellie has now replaced those paper graphs with a set of sophisticated spreadsheets—bringing the family business firmly into the modern age.

Currently, Ellie is learning all aspects of managing Monoroof, ensuring the business continues to thrive for future generations. We hope that one day Ellie will be joined in the business by her own children, Rhea and Riley, carrying the Baker family tradition forward once again.

The family legacy doesn’t stop at roofing. Ellie is also following in the Baker footsteps as a marathon runner. John completed the Bolton Marathon in the 1980s, Marcus has completed the Edinburgh, Chester, and Manchester Marathons, and Ellie is now training for the 2026 Manchester Marathon. She has already completed two half marathons across Greater Manchester.

Good luck, Ellie—we’re proud to have you on our team!
