Monoroof extends relationship with Sika

Our relationship with Sika and Sarnafil dates back to the 1980’s and we’re delighted to be a Sika Verified Contractor for 2024 for a range of Sika products, including Sika Single Ply Membrane.

Our founder, John Baker, was a member of the small Sarnafil team who introduced Sarnafil to the UK over forty years ago and Monoroof was one of the original Sarnafil approved contractors.

Marcus Baker, our Contracts Director, remembers a trip to Sarnafil HQ in Sarnen, Switzerland as a teenager. ‘My dad often visited Sarnafil HQ in Switzerland, returning with huge bars of Toblerone and Sarnafil branded stationary as presents, and one summer they invited all the family. We drove all the way to Switzerland and spent a week in a traditional hotel in the Swiss Alps. My sister thought it was a funny place for Sarnafil to based as all the Swiss houses had really steep traditional tiled roofs, like cuckoo clocks, and there weren’t many flat roofs. Sarnafil HQ was really modern and futuristic, like a James Bond laboratory, with scientists and engineers in white lab coats. Our family have visited the Swiss Alps many times since then, usually with our snowboards or mountain bikes.’

Monoroof has installed 500,000m2 of Sarnafil membranes since 1984. One of our earliest Sarnafil projects was the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and we still have photographs and architects drawings of the cathedral on the wall in our head office.

Sika is renowned throughout the world for providing high quality, long lasting single-ply roofing solutions and acquired Sarnafil in 2005. Michael Platt, our Managing Director says ‘Becoming a Sika Verified Contractor creates new opportunities for us to work on a broader range of projects and allows us to offer our clients the full range of market leading products. Formal accreditation by Sika assures our clients that we’re fully trained and qualified and audited to stringent professional standards.’
